'll begin with a disturbing discovery at a high school in fairfax. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm brian bolter. >> i'm shawn yancy. administrators found a loaded gun in robinson secondary school. fox 5's audrey barnes has the latest from the newsroom. >> fairfax county schools have an e-mail alert system called keep in touch . that's how parents found out about a gun found at secondary school at robinson. school officials immediately le rachel shrineman has three kids at the school and was instantly concerned when she received an e-mail alert about the discovery. >> i have a 7th grader who didn't really know what had happened. my 10th grader had heard, but it was dealt with so quickly that i think the kids felt very safe and i haven't seen my 12th grader yet today. >> reporter: investigators say there was an ammunition magazine in the weapon, but they didn't release any other details about what led them to the locker. >> of course, i mean it's concerning, but it can happen anywhere. so i don't see that robinson is any different than any other school that could have something like this
. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm shawn yancy. >> i'm maureen umeh. as relatives begin to say good- bye to their slain children, investigators in connecticut continue to work to better understand what happened. that includes interviewing two injured witnesses and digging deeper into the gun and computer use of the 20-year-old gunman. two young victims laid to rest monday, 6-year-old jack pinto, a huge new york giant fan, and 6-year-old noah pozner who loved learning how things worked. his twin sister was in a different classroom and survived. >> he was celebrated as a pure innocent child who had the promise of life ahead of him who brought joy to his family and to his community and will be sorely missed. >> reporter: funerals are planned throughout the week as the investigation into the mass shooting continues. authorities established adam lanza shot his mother four times in the head at their home while she was still in bed. they say he then went to newtown sandy hook elementary school where he shot open an entrance, then fired multiple magazines from a bushmaster ar15 rifle to kill si
with a winter weather alert, another round of snow heading our way. thanks for joining us tonight. a winter weather advisory for the d.c. area will go into effect in just a few hours. fox 5's gary mcgrady has the latest tonight. >> thanks a lot. cold out there tonight is the first thing you'll notice. the snow is still hours away now. temperatures outside really dropping out in the suburbs, frederick right now 28, baltimore 32, here in town holding at 38 degrees, manassas is freezing, culpeper freezing, winchester freezing, martinsburg below. once this precipitation overspreads the area, i think it's going to start as all snow, here's what we're talking about. we're already beginning to see the faintest of returns back out to the west just about to cross over into at least parts of extreme western virginia. most of west virginia is covered up with some sort of precipitation now. distinct rain/snow line, too and the snow is falling around towards indiana up towards ohio, but cold air is in place, so we will get a pretty rapid changeover to some light snow it looks like overnight tonight. lis

the national christmas tree, highlights from tonight's pageant of peace. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm will thomas. >> i'm shawn yancy. >>> we begin with a frightening of george washington university. someone tried to sexually assault a woman in a restroom. >> police have their hands full with several burglaries all within the last 36 hours. fox 5's audrey barnes has tonight's news alert. >> those burglaries happened in the ivory tower residence hall this afternoon. around the corner in rice hall a female employee was attacked in a third floor bathroom on tuesday. the incidents have triggered a flurry of security alerts across the downtown campus. there's a guard posted at front desk rice hall on i street now after someone tried to sexually assault a female employee in a third floor bathroom. when she walked in, the suspect turned the light out and jumped her. she fought back and he fled. from now on no one can get in or out of the building without a g world card or escort. security has been ramped up, too, at the ivory tower residence hall after police say two girls went from room t
